Liza Minnelli to be honoured with New York bus ride
Liza Minnelli is the most recent famous face to be honoured as part of the New York sightseeing bus tour operated by Gray Line.
A custom made double-decker bus used for sightseeing tours around the Big Apple has been emblazoned with the face of Liza Minnelli across the front as the actress and singer is honoured as part of the Gary Line Ride of Fame tour.
The bus, which has been especially created for the actress, will be unveiled at a special ribbon-cutting ceremony at New York’s Time Square on March 8th. Liza Minnelli is expected to attend the ceremony and to cut the ribbon to declare the dedicated Ride of Fame bus open for business.
Gray Line has been operating sightseeing bus tours around some of the New York’s biggest attractions since 1962. Liza Minnelli was chosen as the latest celebrity to be honoured by the popular tourist bus company as the star “embodies the attitude, tastes, style and pizzazz of this great city” according to one of the Gray Line bosses.
A number of famous names with links to the city have been honoured by Gray Line in recent months, with singer and songwriter Cyndi Lauper receiving her own dedicated bus created in her image at the beginning of the year, as well as actress Whoopi Goldberg and Donald Trump who all received the Ride of Fame treatment.
Bristol’s sightseeing coach tours start early
Bristol’s popular sightseeing coach tour will start early this year, kicking off the first tour of 2011 on Saturday.
To celebrate the first official tour of the city of the New Year, the city’s lord mayor will be joining the bus company to enjoy a guided tour of the best sights in Bristol.
The sightseeing bus company took the decision to start their season early this year following a very successful year in 2010. Over the last 12 months, the company reported carrying 21,000 people on their tours. Plus 8 out of 10 bus passengers last year were visiting the city from overseas, which marks a distinct change in the type of customers the company is attracting as in previous years, the firm found that up to 50% of their passengers were from Bristol or the surrounding area.
The circular sightseeing tour takes in some of the city’s best loved attractions and famous spots including Bristol Zoo, St Nicholas Market, Ladies Mile, City Museum and the Downs and Avon Gorge.
The big red buses will be offering open topped guided tours of Bristol on their double-decker vehicles from this Saturday until the end of the tourist season.
